With the political winds at the back of Republican Scott Brown, pollsters tracking the Massachusetts Senate race are skeptical that President Obamas Boston rally on Sunday will be enough to put Democrat Martha Coakley over the top.
Her supporters are holding on to the hope that Obamas appearance, along with the wave of reports about Browns surging poll numbers, will inspire Democrats whove been cool to Coakley and the race until now to turn out at the polls to back her.
Given the states leftward tilt it last elected a Republican senator in 1972, and Democrats outnumber Republicans by about three-to-one that could avert a stunning Democratic loss of a seat that seemed safe as recently as two weeks ago.
A lot of people dont even realize there is an election on Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of Ted Kennedy, Obama says in a robocall that state voters began receiving Friday. They dont realize why its so important.
David Paleologos, the director of the Political Research Center at Boston's Suffolk University, said Obamas visit was less about persuasion just one percent of voters are still undecided and more about inspiration, making sure Democrats voters disinterested in the race or cool to Coakley head to the polls.
But so far its been Brown whos benefited from turning the election into a referendum on the presidents policies. Hes based much of his campaign on a promise to stop Obamas health plan, since his win would leave Democrats one vote shy of the 60 needed to stop a filibuster, while Coakley has vowed to pass it.

Croakleys internals must be really bad. The MSM has been laying the groundwork for the “It is not Obamas fault” excuse for two days now.
I Have no idea what the polls show. I have read so many polls I don’t know what to believe anymore. PPP is going to come out with a poll tomorrow(now we already know PPP is a Dem hack polling company) that shows Coakley with a +1 lead over Brown..I just want Brown to win, we have to kill this bill. Coakley is the worse of the worse, she can’t win
They don't like Obama either.
The title of a posting on the popular liberal state politics blog Blue Mass Group summed up the take-your-medicine message to disaffected Democrats: Yes it sucks. Yes you have to vote Coakley.
A year ago you could have posted the same exact words with McCain replacing Coakley. Look how well it worked for us?
Deep Kimchee for Democrats in Massachusetts coming this week.
That sounds almost Shakespearean.
does obama have any political capital left?
Et tu Brute
I noticed on today's (January 15, 2010) Web versions of the San Francisco Chronicle and the Los Angeles Times, there were no front-page adulatory articles about BO, or any other kind of articles about him, for that matter. This is unusual for these two media outlets.
“This may be a similar Corzine-type situation, where Obama is magnificent but it doesn’t resonate.”
Damn... it never ends. The MSM makes me sick.
Will belt to boobs be able to save the swimmers seat?
good news?
Clinton and Obama trek to Haiti, seek to lead effort that will save thousands of lives!!!! Barack “Hussein” Obama and ex-president William Jefferson Clinton are both tonight headed to the overwhelmed nation of Haiti that both profess to love so much..........wait a minute!!!!!! Cancel that bulletin, both Obama and Clinton have suddenly lost their love for the beseiged folks and children suffering in Haiti. The special election in Massachusetts is much, much, much, more important then some poor unfortunate, dehydrating, starving, injured and dying souls in Haiti!!!! Shucks, Martha Coakley “not the sharpest knife in the drawer needs help”. Goodness, Haiti and her people can wait!!!! Send Hillary, she will suffice for the moment!!!! Damnit, send GW Bush and even his old man, we can bad mouth him and the senior Bush later after we screw things up, we’ll blame him!!!!! And....the beat of the socialist/communist/facist mantra that is Barack Hussein Obama goes on!!!! Has enough America????? Vote for Scott Brown on Tuesday, January 19, 2010!!!!!
I’m not getting my hopes up too high, but 0bama doesn’t have a good track record of getting out the vote for other candidates. Since he was elected, 0bama poured in money, cut robocalls, radio and TV ads to back Martin in the Georgia run off election, Martin lost by 15 points. Then he campaigned in both VA and NJ, McDonnell won by almost 20 points in VA and democrat NJ went republican. So, I’m hoping that 0bama will be the kiss of death for Coakley.
And ABC Radio News (the ones who always refered to President Bush as "Mr. Bush") has only had Obama's harsh voice on their broadcasts a few times during the past few days. Very unusual for them too.
It was over as soon as she said Schilling was a Yankees fan.
They know its really bad. Obama is going to throw Coakley under the bus - he’s going to Massachusetts to assure the Democratic base he tried for his party’s candidate and the ironic thing is a lot of Massachusetts Democrats just don’t like her, period

A lot may not like O either.
Praying that Obama doesn’t pen executive order allowing Haitians to vote in Massachusetts Senate election Tuesday via absentee ballots handed out with food...
