SANTIAGO, Chile — Facing the prospect that Chile could swing to the right for the first time in two decades, Eduardo Frei took the stage in the working-class neighborhood of La Granja and pressed his leftist credentials one more time.

“We are going to win by a nose,” Mr. Frei confidently declared last week, to the tepid applause of flag-waving supporters, some swinging hammer-and-sickle Communist Party flags.

One month after the center-right billionaire Sebastián Piñera won the first round of Chile’s presidential election with 44 percent of the vote,

The LEFTIST WAS IN A CROWD WITH PEOPLE WAVING THE COMMUNIST FLAG~ Does anyone else feel unease at some scene like this?

Or do South Americans just have a much greater tolerance toward dictators, and communists/socialists than we DO?

Can you even immagine President Obama at a campaign rally where (some of his supporters) were waving flags of the old SU or Communist China or NK, or Vietnam??

People are rejecting Marxism around the globe. The Chileans are sick of it. Americans feel the same way! 2010 is turning to be year when the leftist fad is going out.

Frei is a complete idiot and was just about hated when he left office. The high point of his term was his wife building a very nice museum. That is it!

It will be close but I think Sebastian will win. There are no real secrets in Chile. I called the Pineda camp this morning. I won't tell you who I spoke with but “he knows” the internal polls of BOTH Frei and Pinera. He quoted to me 51.65% for Pinera 48.38 for Frei for the Pinera poll and 50.23 Pinera to 49.77 for Frei in Frei's poll. I hope both polls are right!

From your lips to God’s ears! With Coalicion swinging to the left, Chile needs Pineda to win. It’s literally the choice between Reagan or Allende.

I just heard private from a reliable source that Pineda won, 60-40. Is that what your sources say? Unfortunately, I read no Spanish.
