I posted this on another thread
After some yrs. of being overhauled, the Carl Vinson was on its way to San Diego for homeporting and just ordered to head to Haiti with the crews own supplies and disburse.
The Navy knows how to shift gears quick.
My cousins son is a crew member on board the Vinson.
I believe that the USMC is still flying UH-1N Hueys from the “Gator Navy” carriers, LPH’s or LHA’s. However, these gray helos in Haiti were probably Navy SH-60s from the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70.
Plus, how can anyone call a Huey, “giant”, is beyond me! ;-)
(Full disclosure: I used to fly Sikorsky Sea Stallions, CH-53D, just a bit bigger than the UH-1N.)
Meet the UH-1Y "Venom" the Huey still flown by Marines....
I believe that the USMC still uses an updated UH-1N and is now starting to deploy the UH-1Y..... although whether any are now in Haiti or not, I have no idea.
