The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to use certain beef dog treats distributed by Merrick Pet Care because the treats might be contaminated with salmonella.
To this date no illnesses have been linked to the recalled products, but the FDA is advising consumers in possession of these items not to handle or feed them to their pets.
The affected Merrick Beef Filet Squares for dogs have a “best buy” label of 111911. The agency recommends that consumers who are unable to determine the “best by” date discontinue use of the product. They were distributed nationwide through Internet sales and retail stores.
Salmonella can affect both animals and humans. People should thoroughly wash their hands after contact with the tainted treats or any surfaces exposed to these products.
The agency advises consumers to dispose of any tainted products safely, in a secure container within a covered trash bin.

After careful research, we feed our dogs raw chicken daily. Their guts can process sam and ella. Healthy, great teeth, small and non smelly poop.
We’ve been feeding our dogs BARF (bones and raw food) for 8 years. Because most food passes through their digestive system within 24 hours, salmonella doesn’t have much chance to infect them.
