According to my nearly 2:00am quick algebraic calculations, at that rate I would have to spend more than our entire household annual income on retail goods or other taxable services in order not to come out ahead relative to what we pay now in sales taxes combined with the property taxes on our modest home.
Sounds like a winner of a plan to me.
What’s important to remember about funding government through sales taxes rather than property taxes and/or income taxes is that it distributes the tax burden much more equitably amongst the entire population.
Property taxes and/or income taxes, on the other hand, are easy tools for progressive social/economic “reformers” to use to give special favors to some classes of citizens at the expense of others’ lives, rights, and property. They are (property taxes and income taxes), to put it bluntly, nothing more than tools for government to use in order to facilitate the redistribution of wealth.
