PHILADELPHIA -- Teddy Pendergrass, who became R&B's reigning sex symbol in the 1970s and '80s with his forceful, masculine voice and passionate love ballads and later became an inspirational figure after suffering a devastating car accident that left him paralyzed, died Wednesday at age 59.
The singer's son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died at Bryn Mawr Hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The singer underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery," his son said.

Prayers up, Teddy.
Prayers and RIP Teddy. A man with a great voice. This early death is very typical of wheel chair bound people.
That is sad news. Prayers for his family.
So sad... I loved his voice.
“Close the door...”
RIP, Teddy
Just laughing remembering Eddie Murphy imitating Teddy going “YOU GOT YOU GOT YOU GOT WHAT I NEED!”
RIP Teddy.
Rest in peace, Teddy Pendergrass and thanks for the music...

That is sad. I loved his song Love TKO. He had such a hard time of things later on after his accident. Rest in Peace. God Bless his Family.
I beg to differ on your opine.
31yrs WC bound here and no health issues outside of original disability.
The guy had colon cancer.
One of Teddy’s last big singles was “Hold Me in Your Arms” which featured a young singer named Whitney Houston. That song launched Whitney’s career.
what suffering some people have to endure....may
God bless all of his family and may Teddy forever sing his songs in heaven.......

Amen to that. That’s when music was really “music.” It’s gone downhill steadily since Teddy’s accident. I haven’t purchased a music CD in years. One of the last ones I bought was Aaron Neville and his beautiful voice.
Being paralyzed in a wheel chair makes you more susceptible to diseases like colon cancer because of the problems these people have with their bowels.
whatever....
End of subject.
Prayers for those who lost a loved one.
RIP my friend.
“TKO” is also one of my favorites songs of his as well.
Boy do you have that right.
Musicians/singers/song writers rare birds.
I have started attending local music venues and buying there CDs.
Got turned onto Celtic music and loving that right now.
Untill the next new sound for me comes along.
Thanks! It took a trip to Jamaica for me to “get into” reggae music. I really like a lot of it. Some, not so much, but that’s normal with any type of music. Native American flute music I could listen to all day long. I was excited to hear Mongolian thoat singing. Some of the singers are much better than others. Also the Indian music from Mexico (not the stuff we hear at cantinas and Mexican restaurants) is fantastic.
