Despite talk about a possible run for the U.S. Senate seat in New York, former Memphis Congressman Harold E. Ford Jr. still lists a condo on South Front Street as his home.
He shows the Downtown address as his primary residency on records with the Shelby County Election Commission. And he last cast a ballot in Shelby County during the November 2008 presidential election.
"He voted at an early-voting site for the November 2008 general election," Shelby County Election Administrator Richard Holden confirmed Tuesday.
Holden said election records indicate that Ford has listed 415 S. Front, Unit 12, as his primary residence since March 2006.
Shelby County Property Assessor's records show that Ford owns the Downtown apartment. The one-bedroom, 11/2 -bath unit he purchased in July 2005 is appraised at $168,700.
Ford announced in the pages of The New York Post on Tuesday that he is "strongly considering" a run for the U.S. Senate in New York.
The column appeared a week after reports that Ford was being urged to run by some wealthy backers and a day after President Barack Obama's press secretary, Robert Gibbs, said the White House is backing incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand to retain the seat she was appointed to when Hillary Clinton resigned to become Secretary of State.
In his Post column, the five-term congressman said he is in favor of same-sex marriage "after listening to and participating in the national conversation about full equality and fairness." When he ran for the Senate in 2006 in Tennessee, he supported a constitutional amendment outlawing the practice.

I think this light skinned Negro with no Negro dialect could beat the even lighter-skinned and entitled Gillebrand.
I believe you might be right about that .. and in the process, take that smug arrogant Schmuck Schumer down a notch or two, as Gillibrand is Schmuckies sock puppet. Schmuck needs a good smackdown, its way overdue.
Never thought that I'd ever say this, but for once I'm cheering on a Dem interloper to shake things up a bit here in New York ... GO Harold Ford Jr. ... GO Man GO !
The question that was not answered in this article is if Ford voted in NY and TN in 2008. With early voting, this is quite possible.
Can these people in the press not look up anything? Do they have no memory? Ford can become a NY resident and run for Senate very very late in the process under the rules of NY.
Yeah but he is light skinned and if 0bama can get away with his style election then it would not be fair if Harold Ford were not eligible too, don’t you think? I mean fair is fair ( oh pardon the pun) /S
Since when did you have to be a resident of New York to be one of its Senators?
I believe you have to become a resident 1 day before the election or something like that. Hell that’s what Hilary did.
