Absolutely right.

What a maroon.

You can make a decent case that the US might have gotten into a major war with France if Napoleon’s (the First) plans for expansion into North America hadn’t come apart due to the resistance of the people and mosquitoes of Haiti.

So he sold us Louisiana instead of invading.

Corruption of a few causes the suffering of many. Look at the relatively prosperous Dominican Republic which shares the same island.

To blame this on a “pact with the devil” is beyond asinine.

(BTW, this corruption is increasingly happening here)

Glad you brought that up. Napoleon (and it was the 1st, not the 3rd!) sent something like 65K troops over, who committed horrendous atrocities in an effort to suppress the slave revolt. Their failure caused him to give up his dream of a new French empire in America. We owe a debt to the people of Haiti, which was the 2nd New World country after the U.S. to free itself from Euro. colonialism.
