The archbishop of Port-au-Prince was killed in the devastating earthquakes that have demolished the Haitian capital and taken untold lives since striking Tuesday, according to a dispatch from the Vatican.
The body of Msgr. Joseph Serge Miot, 65, was found under the rubble of the archdiocese, and may be one of only hundreds of victims trapped in the ruins of Church buildings on the island.

My parish is involved with Hope for Haiti medical facilities in Port-au-Prince. I’m certain that many of our parishioners have met the Archbishop.
Prayers up for this tragic event.

Prayers for him, and all the poor people of Haiti.
I lived there many years ago (back in the 60s). I am going to have to make some calls and find out if my friends who are still there are o.k. Most of them live in Cap Haitien, but there are cousins in Petionville and that area was hit pretty hard.

The amount of destruction and suffering here is incalculable. And driven to further extremity because so many of the usual helpers, responders and healers are themselves dead or badly injured: Catholic Relief Services, Oxfam, Catholic Medical Mission Board, etc. Horrible.

The body of Msgr. Joseph Serge Miot, 65, was found under the rubble of the archdiocese ...Odd to call an Archbishop, "Monsignor," but it is the MSM. And the rest of the sentence, while unusually-phrased, is probably more true than anything else they might have said.

Perhaps God wanted him to greet those who died in that quake with him.
I thought the same of Fr Judge after 911.
