It’s going to be pretty bad; it’s certainly not going to be the worst natural disaster the world has ever seen. Might be the worst or one of the worst in the Western Hemisphere. Deaths are certainly in the thousands, and may be in the tens of thousands.
There have been a variety of Chinese floods that may have killed a million+, and Bangladeshi cyclones killing hundreds of thousands.
This won’t reach the death toll of the Indian Ocean Tsunami, or the 1975 Tangshan earthquake in China.
Sort of amazing in this era of worldwide instantaneous communications we are only getting some photos and some eyewitness reports trickling out.
