Some people can retrofit to run on any oil including cheap oil resturants want to get rid of.
You could always move to Texas or Oklahoma where you can buy real gas! ;-)
Old car, good idea `cause you`ll ruin the engine.
this is mandated by the feds? since when? older cars are not grandfathered? what’s up?
Seems to me that the government is deliberating obsoleting old cars through this mandate. That’s just wrong.
Uh just lut it in the tank and start it then drive. I when I was in High School(1970s) used Gasohol (10% Alcohol-90% Gas) in my car all of the time w/ no probs.
Ruin the engine with the ethanol, or with the other things the poster mentioned?
Not in Texas, we have been forced to buy that crap ethanol in our gas. Ir really sucks, about 10-15% less fuel economy (MPG for you california goobs)
Add lead to the gas.
Proper combustion is only part of the problem. Ethanol damages - softens, partially dissolves - gaskets, hoses, and other parts that are not specifically impervious to it.

Gasoline engines will not burn restaurant cooking oil, or any oil, for that matter. Only diesel engines can burn waste oil. Some burn it straight up if it's hot out (I know someone who does this with an old Mercedes 300D). Others add a heater to the fuel tank to lower the viscosity of the cooking oil, and have a secondary tank for diesel fuel that the car starts on and burns until the cooking oil tank is hot. If you want to drive a car on cooking oil, get an old used diesel.
You must live in or near one of the big cities. You have to drive pretty far out to escape metro areas covered by the silly air pollution rules - that don’t actually help solve air pollution. In places like College Station, I don’t think there are any stations that sell the crappy gas with ethanol in it. Whoop!
But...but...but The govmnt says it’s good for you!
Think it’s bad on cars, you should see the damage to small engines. We sell/service Stihl and Toro equip. That crap is EATING the innards of the machines.
Don’t even get me started on what it’s doing to outboards.
Trying to be more serious this time - where do people buy gas for their lawn mowers or boats? That equipment requires real gas.
I don’t know what state you live in, but in many states there are some stations still selling real gas. You just have to find them. People discuss this issue on Gas Buddy sometimes, even though that site is meant to help folks find the best gas prices.
Ethanol content is supposed to be posted on the pump...
I'm getting this second hand from my hubby and he's not here right now, but, I could have sworn they said it work without any type of conversion as long as the oil was clean.
Just to let you know, I use to work on cars with my dad and also at times repaired my own cars. I haven't done this in years because I don't have to, but, I'm not a complete dits when it comes to cars :)
Yes, DFW area. They have extended the area where 10% ethanol is sold/mandated. It is horible on older cars. the fuel system is destroyed. Even worse on boats. The fiberglass tanks are rotting out with the ethanol. The old boat engines that were always reliable are just turning to junk aluminum now. EPA should be eliminated. They are crooks, like the rest of the federal government.
