I have one of the S & W model 10 with the 6 inch barrel.
It is in fine shape, I have found 5 serial numbers that are the same.
Does anybody know how to tell year it was made by the serial number?

On holsters for concealed carry, I have about 10 for 3 handguns.
I use the 5 inch belly wrap that holds 2 handguns and 2
magazines, the cost is about $25 and never use any other.
It will even allow me to carry my 6 inch wheel gun hidden.

PM me the serial number with any letter prefix less the last 2 digits and I can get you a year.

If it is marked Mod 10 in the yoke cutout in the frame, the serial should be next to that number. If it’s a pre model 10 (prior to 1957) the serial will be on the butt.

I would like to know the serial number scheme as well.

I have 2 Mod 10’s., a 4” and a 5” barrel.

The first on I had was issued to me when I was on flight crew. Stingy Navy wanted that one back.
