Not that I would ever ascribe ancient Greek religious history to linguistic lackwits *but* “Yo” is pretty much how “Io!” is pronounced in the invocation to the Horned God, Pan.

[”Io! Pan!”]

It basically was a call and hail to the god, either in general worship or invocation designed to produce a physical incarnation/manifestation.
It’s still used in pagan ritual but I don’t know how they keep a straight face, considering its context, now.

[”Yo, mama!” would be a good analogy...sort of]...:)
