Candidate [Janes] to GOP: Sorry, But Tea Party Label Better for Me
CQ Politics ^ | January 11, 2010 | John McArdle

Posted on 01/11/2010 6:53:36 PM PST by Lorianne

Network computer consultant Donn Janes, who filed for Tennessee's 8th district race as a Republican in August, has decided to instead run as an Independent Tea Party candidate this cycle.

Janes, who has bashed the National Republican Congressional Committee for backing gospel singer Stephen Fincher (R) in Tennessee's open 8th district, said he decided to seek a third party nomination because "the National Republican Party continues to aggressively support candidates who lack depth on issues and conservative values, but instead focus on candidates who are able to self fund or raise large sums of money."

Democratic strategists said Monday the move will help their chances to hold the seat of retiring Rep. John Tanner (D) by siphoning off Republican votes in the general election.

Janes made his announcement at a a Tea Party event in Paris, Tenn., on Saturday, about a week after wealthy physician Ron Kirkland of Madison County officially threw his hat into the GOP race.

Janes said last month he expects to report less than $20,000 raised in the fourth quarter of 2009.

CQ Politics presently rates the Tennessee 8 race as a Toss Up.

If the Tea Party people try to become an actual party, their support will dry up and they will just be another failed third party.

In other words, he didn’t get chosen, so he’s going to throw a temper tantrum about it.

Exactly. I support the Tea Parties, I've helped to organise Tea Parties, and am doing so again this year. But if the Tea Partiers try to become a third party, they will lose my support 100%.

I agree that a third party is a bad idea, but all we’ve gotten from the RNC is bad ideas and an unqualified Marxist in the White House. Conservatives need to make the Republican Party their own again, hence the idea of Free Range Republicans.

Sarah recently referenced this when announcing the convention....I have concerns if they attempt to do this we’ll be playing into the demo’s playbook...(scratching my head)...Further it didn’t sit well with me Sarah mentioned it as it puts her signiture on it, an I’m not sure this is the way to go...a little disturbing.

The political insiders favor money over principle every time and the people should decide their candidates in the GOP primary, not the NRCC in Washington.

Jane saw the writing on the wall, realised he couldn’t beat the other two republican candidates in the primary, and decided to try to get the democrat re-elected.

Third party = kiss of death to the conservative cause.

As opposed the electoral success we now enjoy with exactly zero levers of power at our fingertips from the leadership of the "moderate" wing of the Republican Party?

Exactly. I expect a lot of this stuff.
The rats will kick over rocks to find scumbags who can act like conservatives, claim the "tea party" label, and then enter races to siphon off just enough votes to help the scumbag Democrats win. It's a good strategy, dependent only on the stupidity of the ignorati.

Works for me. Go Mr Janes. No more mamby pamby GOP BS.

I Pledge the following:

* I believe in a balanced budget and therefore will vote for a freeze in government spending until that goal is realized.

* I believe government should not increase the financial burden on it’s citizenry during difficult economic times, therefore I will oppose all tax increases until our economy has rebounded.

* I believe more than four decades of U.S. dependence on foreign oil is a travesty therefore I will support an energy plan that calls for immediately increasing usage of all domestic resources including nuclear, natural gas and coal as necessary.

* I believe in the sovereignty and security of our country and therefore will support measures to close our borders except for designated immigration points so we will know who is entering and why. I will vehemently oppose any measure giving another country, the United Nations, or any other entity, power over U.S. citizens.

* I believe the United States of America is the greatest country on Earth and therefore will not apologize for policies or actions which have served to free more and feed more people around the world than any other nation on Earth.

* I believe the checks and balances have slowly eroded over time allowing the executive and judicial branches to grow their power over the people. I will support measures to return to the roles defined in our Constitution, so that each branch effectively provides the checks and balances necessary to prevent one branch from obtaining too much power.

My Principles:

* America is good.

* I believe in God and He is the Center of my life.

* I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.

* A person is judged by their character, actions and the people they surround themselves with. Not by the color of their skin, religion or financial standing.

* The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.

* If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.

* I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.

* I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.

* It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.

* The government works for “The People”. We do not answer to them, they answer to us.

* The government should do as little as needed and be transparently accountable for “The People’s” money that they spend.
