Christ, not this again. There was never any travel ban to Pakistan. Not in the 1980s. Not ever. There was a State Department advisory at that time. What the advisory said was that you could get a tourist visa when you got to the airport in Karachi, but that if you were going to cross the border from India you had to get one beforehand, because they didn't give them out at the crossing. That was the extent of the State Department's travel advisory. It's also worth noting that at the same time this alleged travel ban was in place, Ronald Reagan was sending billions in military and economic aid to the Pakistani goverment.
The point is that Barry placed himself in Pakistan region during this timeframe. If I am mistaken on the ban, mea culpa - I am sure he was only there to advance the cause of America.
That is correct, we dismantled that rumor. Going to Pakistan on an American passport was just fine.
