I believe God is using this movie to draw people to Himself and develop in us an appetite for eternity and an awareness of our current, fallen state.

I believe God will continue to utilize this medium and all its technological innovations to allow humans to replicate as closely as possible the world we are really in and the world we are really meant to live for.

Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well, there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire: well, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does not prove that the universe is a fraud. Probably earthly pleasures were never meant to satisfy it, but only to arouse it, to suggest the real thing. ~ C.S. Lewis

The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself, they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshippers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited. ~ C.S. Lewis

“When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed ... gray. It was like my whole life, everything I’ve done and worked for, lost its meaning,” Hill wrote on the forum. “It just seems so ... meaningless. I still don’t really see any reason to keep ... doing things at all. I live in a dying world.”

Strange, this is how I’ve felt ever since turdbama was elected.

"Kinda makes you wonder if this was the desired effect from making the movie, and these dummies fell for it."
Encore! Encore! Sequel after sequel! ;-)

Ask Realdoll, LOL. They’ve met some pretty bizarre requests.

No, I don’t mean I can’t surf. I just can’t surf on Pandora.

T2 was great though. Cameron had nothing to do with the other sequels.

The Terminator and Aliens were pretty much perfect action films.

I saw one of the greatest comments on the list below the article. It said something like:

“I’m depressed after Avatar too. I’m depressed that I didn’t go to medical school so that I could be a psychiatrist. Obviously there are a lot of people out there in need of industrial strength therapy.”

"Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it," Mike posted. "I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.' "

Almost like the MMORPG effect, but in a movie.

The phrase “get a life” seems strangely inadequate here.

Bubblegum for the mind movies, IMO.

Especially in light of that great haunted house in space story: Ridley Scott's original ALIEN.

Ridley Scott’s film didn’t have much going for it except the Disco inspired Art Direction. Things just jump out and go “Boo!” and the characters are completely random lambs being led to the slaughter. In ‘Aliens’ the Motherhood theme is much more integrated into the narrative.

We will definitely have to agree to disagree.

ALIEN = Masterpiece

ALIENS = Saturday Matinee.

You’re just repeating what you said before. I gave reasons for my judgment. Alien has nothing to offer beyond random scares and gross out scenes.
