WASHINGTON (AP) - Sarah Palin believed that Sen. John McCain chose her to be his running mate in 2008 because of "God's plan," according to a top political strategist in the Arizona Republican's campaign.
In an interview with the CBS news magazine "60 Minutes," Steve Schmidt described Palin as "very calmnonplussed" after McCain met with her at his Arizona ranch just before putting her on the Republican ticket. McCain had planned to name Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., as his vice presidential choice until word leaked, sparking what Schmidt called political blowback over picking the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee.
Schmidt said he asked Palin about her serenity in the face of becoming "one of the most famous people in the world." He quoted her as saying, "It's God's plan."

Number one, she’s right. And number two, Obama believes the same thing — that he is the destined one. The one with the miraculous gift to sway the minds of people. He has mentioned that ‘gift’ and his sense of destiny again and again.
I’ve read her book, she is the anti-thesis to thesis Obama. Nemesis to his hubris.
George Washington felt his career was guided and protected by Providence — so to Lincoln, if not most other Presidents.
So should we all feel, for that’s true — but like Sarah and her ethos of doing it rather than having it do you — only by our concreted action in harmony with Providence do we gain grace. Either way — or any way — with the plan, against the plan or ignorant of the plan — the plan goes forward.
She sure as hell wasn't mistaking John McCain with God.
Since when do we call someone a “religious zealot” just for acting like a normal Christian?
God's plan or not...this is why McCain is never to be trusted.
I’m not sure whether Steve Schmidt knows Who God is.
McCain picking Palin’s the only reason why McCain didn’t lose by millions more. Liebermann would not have gotten hardly any votes for McCain.
Its good to know that the commie RATS at 60 Minutes are still terrified of her.

And the GOP cadre. Damnation and oblivion to them both.
She makes it quite clear in “Going Rogue” that she didn’t think much of Schmidt!
to a person of faith, EVERYTHING is part of G-d’s plan
nothing shocking here... unless her faith is the shocking part
Wow. Just wow. Perhaps little stevie should read Sarah’s book. She said that in looking at the majesty of what God had created in Alaska’s beauty, she realized that God must have had a plan for all of us tiny little people that he created. (poorly paraphrased). Her faith in God gave her the grace to accept what was presented. What the heck did schmitt want her to do, start giggling?
(Unless we’re being sarcastic.)
The whole idea is that you can be calm in a storm because God is watching over everything. That’s one reason I am so anti Mitt, Mormonism is a religion of acts not grace (its up to you to do what it takes to become a god on your planet through feverish good works - even Romneycare). Atheism is also a religion based on acts, there’s no one looking out for you. Sounds like Schmidt believes Palin should be scared out of her wits to be in the presence of the man McCain - someone who falls way short of godhood
I watched it. They did all they could to “expose” her as being totally incompetent and in way, way over her head. It’s going to be a very ugly political season. Much more so than usual.
He also has a gay sister and dislikes Palin for not supporting gay marriage... I think McCain said he was against it, too... but his daughter actively promotes it so it could be lip service from Johnny Mac...
Yeah and the Founding Fathers believed America was God’s plan. It may in fact be God’s plan to wipe out the left and its media minions!!
Steve Schmidt, remember him? The stinking, steaming pile that AP takes a handfull of when they want to smear someone.
He will.
What is it with McCain’s Staff? Are they all just back biting SOBs, or are they following McCain’s wishes?
That’s right. If you are not a Christian, it would not make sense. Just exposes the writer.
What a piece of Schmidt this Steve guy is. Is he an atheist?
