He said as much when he was running for President. People just were not listening. Didn't want to listen. WTH did people think he meant when he said "Fundamentally change America"?
Michelle said, “Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.”
But a whole bunch of people in this country vote without any real information, and they don't even try to learn anything.
Voters voted Obama in because they were sure that no one could be worse than Bush (thanks to the media's 8-year attack), because he was black and they thought this would help our country, because they thought he was a moderate who would bring people together, etc. etc. Quite a few voted for him because he was younger and "cool."
Right now we have a dim-bulb electorate, and probably will for another 10 years, at least. That's why you have to get people attracted to your side by having attractive candidates who have humor and snappy attitude. Candidates who are right on the issues but have zero personality have no chance.
I'm not saying this is a good thing. It's just the way things are now. We can TRY and educate them, but unfortunately we are not going to be able to reach that many.
“And I do think that we will eventually hear a variation of the malaise speech”
Also remember his epiphany that the Soviet Union was an “evil empire”, something that was Instinctive with Pres. Reagan. Wonder if Obama will have a similar moment of enlightenment about terrorism?
