STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former GOP Rep. Susan Molinari is looking at running against Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this year.
Ms. Molinari, 52, who left Congress in 1997 and currently lives in Virginia, said that given the health care debate and the upcoming trials of accused 9/11 terrorists here, "it's an important time to have aggressive leadership in the Senate" in the tradition of Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Alfonse D'Amato and Charles Schumer.
Ms. Molinari said she is being urged to run by her father, former Congressman and Borough President Guy Molinari, and by former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, both of whom called her yesterday.
"This is very early in a conversation I'm having with myself," said Ms. Molinari, who is a senior principal at the Bracewell & Giuliani law firm, where she does government affairs work and lobbying.
Ms. Molinari, a former City Council Minority Leader, said she would decide "sooner rather than later" whether she would make the run.

Bet on it.
Well, those supporters sure narrows up my decision-tree....thanks
She lives in Virginia. What’s the difference between her and Harold Ford, Jr? Just run in any state you want no matter where you live?
Come on, folks. This is NY. They’re not going to elect a Republican statewide who isn’t pretty tepid.
But that’s still a lot better for us than the hard Lefty who’ll be in if a Democrat wins.
Long Islands own RINO. If you think someone like Nancy Pelosis a box ‘o’ rocks wait till you get a load of Lil’ Susie.
She was part of the RINO mutiny that ousted Newt, flushing the discipline in the house and The Contract with America, and then ended up on the short end of the stick herself. If anything she is Queen RINO.
I know he’s not perfect but what is wrong with George Pataki?
Trade one pro-abort for another;
why bother?
um. no.
Those personal choices left his credibility in the toilet!
Do we need to repeat those human failings here?
prior post intended as response to Molinari. Yes. Real rino emeritus.

Don’t you mean Staten Island ?
Welcome to Free Republic! For your info she represented Staten Island for years in the House, not Long Island. Again, welcome to Free Republic!
I understand what you mean, but results matter, and Newt accomplished many things that have never been done before that do matter to me. He is the only one besides Ronald Reagan to get anything done that I wanted, and I think that many conservatives were looking for.
What is wrong with Newt is that he is a politician and he’s tried to bend the perceived advantages of the Dems in his favor and use them to provide more conservative and pragmatic solutions that don’t rob us of our money, our freedom and dignity. He has made some personally expensive mistakes in playing that game, but for the most part I believe he is serious about what he says he wants to see happening, rather then being just another one of those RINO sellouts.
