If bill sponsors and gun owners get their way in Virginia and New Mexico this year, they will be able to carry concealed handguns inside alcohol serving restaurants just like they already do in public shopping malls, movie theaters, and most other public places. Gun owners and their civil rights groups pushing for these reforms are buoyed by the recent repeal of similar bans in Tennessee, Arizona, and Georgia.
The Virginia bill is patroned by Delegate Mark Cole (R - Spotsylvania, Fauquier, and Stafford Counties) and the New Mexico bill is sponsored by Senator George Munoz (D - Gallup), and according to the National Rifle Association, being fast tracked by Governor Bill Richardson (D), which will make the bill eligible for consideration during what is primarily a budget-only session.

You are in error. This is not the wild west. There are laws here and now that concealed carriers have shown a great propensity to follow.
Take a look at the map. This is already the law in 42 states, with some slight variations.
According to some historians, the “Wild West” actually had a much lower murder rate than New York and Chicago at the time.
Ideally I would like carry laws that permit me to pack but not the loonies around me. The darn loonies resist this notion however.
I recall an undergrad I used to know who had an actual derringer/belt buckle set. Genuinely nice guy but knowing him reasonably well I would have been reluctant to see him hold as much as a staple gun. The idea of combining his immaturity, a loaded weapon, and booze would be scarey.
