Back in the 1770s there was a guy named Washington, who had something to do with how things actually got done.
I missed out on that as well, I don’t recall the Christian Science Monitor ever being much of anything.

Indeed, but he wasn't in charge, nor did he "vet credentials". He was simply ONE of many leaders of that days "Tea Party" movement. And I would judge that in the earliest days of that movement that Samuel Adams' influence was far greater than Washington's. But he too was not "in charge" as you seem to mean.
