Paterson Chastises Lawmakers in Blunt Speech (a trip to the woodshed)

In an unusually blunt address to the Legislature on Wednesday, Gov. David A. Paterson chastised the lawmakers before him, saying they had spent the state into near fiscal ruin and stood by as a plague of political corruption destroyed New Yorkers trust in government.
Dispensing with the ritualized flattery that typically precedes the annual State of the State address, Mr. Paterson warned, in sometimes biblical tones, that lawmakers faced a political and financial reckoning if they did not act quickly to repair New Yorks finances and restore citizens faith in public officials.
You have left me and other governors no choice, Mr. Paterson said. Whether it be by vetoes or delayed spending, I will not write bad checks, and we will not mortgage our childrens future.
~snip~No longer are we going to run New York like a payday loan operation, the governor vowed. We have got to find a procedure that cures the spending structure that has infected our budget process for the last 20 years.

The Democrats in New York have run the government like a massive payday loan operation. Now when the bill is due, the bank is closed and there are no more loans to get to string it along.

Now that wasn’t nice. He really hurt their all important feelings. ;-)

If he was a Republican, the
New York Times would have denounced him for heartlessness and being out of touch. But a Democrat gets to say things a Republican can't say.

Both parties have brought America to this point by assuring voters they can have anything they want without paying for it. And now the voters are having a bad case of voters' remorse.

Time for a NYS constitutional convention and the right to public petition.

Rather than messing around with the Constitution, how about arresting the crooks who should be in jail. That would be all of them.

Well, to each his own, but it usually takes more than one statement to sway me that easily.
This guy is just as much a "tax and spend" liberal as any of the rest of them; up to now he's had no problem with punitive taxes on EVERYTHING in NY. People are moving out in droves and his coffers are dwindling...and he's panicking.
He was ok with the out-migration a while back when he said "good riddance to Rush Limbaugh", after years of anal financial exams on every dollar Rush spent in NY, or made.
Now NY is broke and can't get a "payday loan", so all of a sudden that is now "evil". He was ok as long as he had access to the money HE needed, now that his checkbook is drying up, he's just making sure the legilators don't have any to spend either...the old liberal ploy of "miseral loves company".
The way to tell if a liberal is lying is to check and see if his mouth is moving...Paterson's mouth is moving.
But, to each his own.

I don’t like this guy’s politics, but I admire his spunk. Doesn’t mind standing up and throwing a few punches. It’s all good.

It doesn’t matter who gets arrested now, as soon as they get more money in their pockets they will go back to their ways because they protect each other. Unlike California, New York is a state where you cannot recall a politician through petition. Only a constitutional convention would change that.
