Michigan's Lieutenant Governor Suddenly Not Interested In Running For Governor--can't raise $!!!

Whoa. "6 News Capitol Correspondent Tim Skubick reports that Lt. Governor John Cherry, once the presumed front-runner for the Democratic nomination, will drop out of the race for Governor."
Michigan's gubernatorial race is one of the tougher ones to get a handle on, as there is a small army of candidates on both sides, but the current lieutenant governor would seem to be a strong competitor in a crowded primary. On the other hand, when your state's economy is starting to look like Cormac McCarthy's The Road, maybe it's the wrong year to run as part of the current administration.
UPDATE: The word is that fundraising woes are the reason Cherry's dropping out.
Er, look, we'll have a clearer picture when these two rugby scrums of primaries are finished, but the bottom line is that the Democratic candidate will be in the role of McCain and the Republican candidate will be in the role of Obama. The Democrat
will have to argue how they'll be different from the incumbent, who's leaving the state in miserable shape, while the GOP candidate's message will be, essentially, "had enough?"

Michigan needs another Engler. He did a good job as gov in the early to mid 1990’s. Actually was pro-business....sort of the complete opposite of the current gov.

Let Indiana and Ohio fight over the lower peninsula and let Wisconsin have the Upper Peninsula. Oh, and take one Star off of the Flag.

Hell no, we Hoosiers don’t want it. Most of us moved here to get away from there anyway...

Wouldn’t getting elected as the governor of Michigan be considered a punishment? It might actually be a worse fate than getting elected governor of California.

Wouldn’t it be wiser to fight for the state now that there’s a chance for the GOP to retake it?

Of course, I stated the above with all due respect to the Freepers from MI. Parts of MI are beautiful — What I meant was that the state is in the worst financial state probably in its history. Any governor would be a scapegoat for obama’s economy.

What a shock... and how did he expect to raise $$$ in a state that isn’t working?!

Ya, Know there are a few conservatives that still live here in Michigan and like it. If you do not like the state, STAY OUT OF IT! ! !

Who the hell would want to be the governor of that God forsaken state? Pete Hokstra (R-Holland). And he will win. Handily.
As you have seen in his Intel Committee interviews on TV, he's very acrappy. And very conservative, very pro-business (actual real-world experience at Herman Miller).
Exactly what Michigan needs.
