In 1933 the “bottom-up” awakening was a bunch of violent thugs who beat people up in the streets. I don’t see current European citizens replicating that. They’ll protest and try to vote for change, and will be ignored until its too late.

Agreed. The Nazis came from the bottom up. Working class Christian white folks who sensed the elite were screwing them over big time. They found a rallying point and the rest (and the elite of the time) is/are history...
