State workers were buoyed last week when an Alameda County judge ruled that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger acted illegally when furloughing tens of thousands of workers -- but the administration is not backing down.
Not only will the governor appeal, but if he loses it could be even worse for workers. At a weekly press briefing this morning, Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear said, "If SEIU and unions are successful at blocking the governor's ability to do furloughs, they will have been successful in guaranteeing layoffs and pay cuts for their members."
SEIU Local 1000 is the largest state worker union, and them's fighting words.

Have heard that the Gov. may call an emergency session (like he did last year) to address the $6.3 billion budget hole we have for the current year. I think his budget comes out Friday. Would not be suprised if layoffs and major program cuts are proposed.
