Dick Cheney had it coming.
Recently, the former vice president said President Barack Obama was jeopardizing the safety of the American people by pretending the war on terrorism did not exist. The catalyst for the attack was a Nigerian-born Islamic terrorists thwarted attempt to bomb an American jetliner in Detroit on Christmas Day.
On Sunday, Obama counterterrorism chief John Brennan fired back at his former boss with a blast far more accurate than any Cheney could muster from the shotgun he was using when he accidentally shot a hunting companion in 2006.
Its disappointing to me that either the vice president and others have willfully mischaracterized President Obamas position and actions, or theyre just ignorant of the facts, Brennan told Fox News. Im neither a Republican nor a Democrat. Ive worked for the previous five administrations, and this president is determined, and I think it is demonstrated in his language. He says that were at war with al Qaida. Were going to destroy al Qaida the organization.
In short, Cheney was either lying, or he doesnt know what hes talking about.
Its significant those words came from Brennan, a career CIA official who was appointed by Obama even though many Democrats felt he was too closely tied to Bush and Cheney. And we wonder why Cheney gets so worked up, since the president has continued many of Bush administrations anti-terrorism policies. One key difference seems to be that Obama does not want to use the cowboy rhetoric favored by his predecessors.
Clearly the Detroit incident was an intelligence and bureaucratic failure, and somebody screwed up by not putting the pieces together. Needless to say, security officials must work harder and smarter to ensure a similar incident does not happen.
All Americans have to understand that there probably will be more attacks, and some may succeed. Fighting those attacks will take hard work and leadership, not the phony rhetoric of an ex-VP with time on his hands and an ax to grind.
BUT you're the same clown that said 'There is no smoking gun here' - yeah right. You can follow the big neon terrorist signs for clues can't you Inspector ClUEseau?
Im neither a Republican nor a Democrat. Ive worked for the previous five administrations,
Suuuuure you are...that's why you gave thousands of dollars to the Obama presidential campaign that i've read, uh huh.
"...and this president is determined, and I think it is demonstrated in his language. He says that were at war with al Qaida. Were going to destroy al Qaida the organization.
Obama is sooooo concerned that he gives shout outs after a terrorist attack to his liberal buddies at the most inappropriate moments...no Obama wants to give al Qaida wet kisses.
Just knowing that Brennan is in charge instead of Cheney is just so so sooooooo reassuring.

It seems to me that people have the impression that the rest of the world is turned off by "cowboy rhetoric". This would seem to be a prejudicial and culturally insensitive stand for these world leaders (and the MSM, for that matter!) to take. Obama appears to believe that they would prefer his "messiah complex" rhetoric instead. Which is more arrogant? Which engenders the greater cooperation among countries?
When? When did Barack Obama actually SAY THOSE words, Mr. Brennan?
“On Sunday, Obama counterterrorism chief John Brennan fired back at his former boss with a blast far more accurate than any Cheney could muster from the shotgun he was using when he accidentally shot a hunting companion in 2006.”
Where did this jackass hack learned to write, Phoenix University?
I guess Brennan/Obama, et al don’t believe “actions speak louder than words”. Bowing & scraping to foreign leaders speaks louder than ‘we will not rest’ (although that’s pretty pathetic, too). ‘Cowboy’ George backed up his words and was feared, Obama is a laughingstock. THAT’S the difference Mr. Brennan & the terrorists know it.
Former VP Cheney is a REAL man & not only can he throw a punch that connects with Obumble's arrogant nose, he can take it when the likes of Gibbs, Brennan, & the hack who wrote this article, swing back.
Suppose that one of the prerequisites to be in politics is a short memory. The rats lead nothing short of an inquisition of the Bush terror policies over the last nine years and now that the shoe is on the other foot I’d like to give them one simple bit of advice: Wear it baby!
Excellent point. The right needs to come up with a term that identifies Obama's style: Messiah rhetoric, All-About-Me rhetoric; Apology rhetoric; Wait-Three-Days rhetoric; America sucks rhetoric? Creative FReepers should come up with something good.
As if Brennan's response in any way diminished the fact that Cheney was right: Obama is weak on terrorism.
You are so right MissMagnolia! :)
Did you ever notice the Democratic response is “Rhetoric” with no substance behind it. They would never dare to go point by point with Dick Cheney. If they did, he would chew them up and spit them out, like he did with John Edwards!
This brings to mind: “when your flak is the heaviest, you’re over the target.”
I believe it was the American School of Cheap Shots.
I heard on FOX news this morning that it was Brennan (along with Clinton and someone else) who passed on the plan to take out bin Laden because it was his opinion that the Saudi’s would “buy” him.

John O. Brennan is Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. He was interim director of the National Counterterrorism Center immediately after its creation in 2004 through 2005, and since 2005 has served as CEO of The Analysis Corporation. He advised Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on foreign policy and intelligence issues. Since 2007, Brennan has served as Chairman of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance.
Not a Democrat or a Republican, eh? The Internet makes it really hard to tell easily disprovable lies, John. You'd think an "intelligence" guy would have figured that out.
Former VP Dick Cheney does not lie and does know what he is talking about. The fact you, Red Steel, make such a stupid remark only shows the reader who you are, and what you are about. YOU, Red Steel, who wrote this trash, do not know any facts of truth. We live in an exceptional country and thank God for the likes of a real man, who understands that, former Vice President Dick Cheney!!!!!!!
As an adjunct professor for an online university, I can categorically state that the a$$hat in question was indoctrinated not educated...
