My husband and I bought a small piece of property.... 1.25 acres. We just wanted a little place we could retire on. We lived in a circa 1977 single wide trailer while we built a modest 1400 sf home. The census guy came by and decided that the trailer (which we had vacated and was scheduled to be hauled off the NEXT DAY) was housing for a family of 5, AND that the newly built home we had just moved into was housing for a family of 8. In this area in this county in this state, it is illegal to have more than one domicile on any property smaller than 10 acres.
The census guy didn't care about that. He was going to count 13 people where there were only 2. Fortunately, my husband was outside when the guy showed up and explained the situation. Fortunately, I was NOT home at the time.
