I remember this race very well. It was a razor-thin victory, even though this despicable woman had thrown everything possible at Jim Talent who was too much of a gentleman to throw it back in her face. She played the embryonic research card, implying that Jim Talent WANTED Michael J. Fox to suffer from Parkinson's Disease, just because Talent was pro-life and not in favor of federal funds being used for embryonic stem cell research.
Rush even got into the act because of the outrageous commercial Michael J. Fox made in support of McCaskill. Fox later admitted that he deliberately did not take his meds before filming the commercial so the Parkinson symptoms would be more pronounced. It was also one of those elections in which the polls in St. Louis were kept open later than they should have been to increase the Democrat totals. Jim Talent chose not to challenge the outcome of the election.
