Expect low blows, high volume from Perry, Hutchison [Texas Gov]
Dallas Morning News ^ | Jan. 2, 2010 | CHRISTY HOPPE

..... In 58 days GOP voters will select either Kay Bailey Hutchison or Rick Perry, two political veterans, popular with their party, undefeated in decades of elections.

In all probability, the price of admission is too steep for political newcomer Debra Medina as the two leaders stage an air-war of political ads likely to tally a combined $30 million over two months.

"It is politics at full-throttle," said Bill Miller, who advises corporate and political clients.

"This will be a race where there will be a lot of gut shots, low blows. They'll be punches thrown meant to incapacitate your opponent," he predicted. "We haven't seen one in a while, but we're certainly in for one now."

Perry will bring in Palin and business endorsements galore; Hutchison will employ Roger Staubach and Nolan Ryan, along with her Bush-team of Cheney, Karen Hughes and Karl Rove...

He said Hutchison needs the fight to be about facts, to push the idea that Perry made decisions or supported people and ideas that are contrary to conservative values. That will heighten interest in the race and drive up voter participation...

But he expects Perry will try to avoid that, keeping the primary small and to its "purest essence." He'll paint Hutchison with the sour brush that Republicans feel toward Congress. ..

Even with the wider world watching, the messages that matter will be calibrated for a GOP audience. Masset predicted that Perry will maintain the anti-Washington theme, while stressing state sovereignty and Texas' better-than-average economic standing. She will question his conservative credentials and suggest he represents politics as usual, Masset said.

"I expect she'll remind people he was Al Gore's state chairman and supported Rudy Giuliani for president," he said. ...

I am very disappointed in the Bush team that is supporting Hutchinson. We do not want her as our governor. She was too eager to get along with the liberals in the Senate. I’m glad we get to replace her in Washington and do not think she has a chance to win the Governor’s race.

I think you’ll see that Perry doesn’t share that thinking. Watch how his campaign unfolds and you’ll see his thinking of her possibillity of winning. It may not be really close in the end but I believe it will be close especially with Medina in the mix and getting some votes.

Are Cheney and W Bush ultimately conservatives or RINO’s?

Their support of the “moderate” Kay Bailey Hutchinson tells us something about them.

I don’t really like Rick Perry a lot. He’s a political pro himself who takes his money and does his animal tricks for the contributors.

Medina is probably the cleanest candidate here.

It will be interesting to watch this “shootout” in Texas.

It’s one we haven’t seen the likes of in Texas in many years. Perry and Hutchison both seem to believe that they are entitled to suck at the public teat all their lives. Both have been doing so for almost 25 yrs each. I think both should get out of elective politics and find something else to do and let others come forward. Kings and Queens we don’t need.

I don’t care for Hutchison or Perry, but Kay Bailey is a ruthless campaigner, expect this race to be very close.

Perry will be no slouch when pushed into a corner and I think both will be in corners for the next two months.

I’m voting for Medina. To heck with the two RINOs, I’ve had more than enough of them.

REMEMBER THIS, TEXANS:

Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress

“One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchison’s amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.”

Agreed, but Medina had better get off of her rear end and start campaigning. She's not well known.

I’ve never liked Perry much, but Kay Bailey is a LOT worse, especially in recent years. She used to appear somewhat conservative, but she has really gone way downhill.

Oh, that's a sure-fire winner. The Elitist Illegal Immigrant Amnestry trio.
