When their brother was killed by Marines, one of the Marines was also killed. The government used Mexican Marines because they haven’t been involved in the actions against the cartels and are not infected by the drug money.

They gave the Marine who was killed a hero’s funeral—but that identified him and his family so the narcos invaded the funeral and killed all the family members, probably as a warning to the Marines to stay out of the War on Drugs.

“Poor Mexico! So close to the United States and so far from God.”

That kind of stuff would have the opposite effect on me. I would want to find out who they were and chase every last one of them down, not giving any one of them a moment's rest until they were dead swinging from a tree.

The lesson here is that they (the good guys) are going to have to have security at public events like funerals. I mean guys on the high ground performing overwatch detail, and a rapid reaction force that can cut off avenues of escape and destroy the enemy in detail if such an attack happens again.

I seem to remember (from the Godfather movies) that in the old country the mafia would have guys carrying shotguns and armed with rifles at funerals and weddings, in preparation for such an attack...
