CANBERRA, Australia, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- The number of people living on the streets in Australia has risen in spite of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's promise to end homelessness, homeless advocates say.

More than 18 months after Rudd called homelessness "a national obscenity," groups like the Salvation Army and Youth off the Streets say more than 100,000 people have no place to live, The Australian reports. Government officials told the newspaper they believe the estimate is close to reality.

KRudd worked to propagate this 'national obscenity' rather than eliminate it.

It's most prolific in Sydney, where I live.

Typical lib (or in the case of Australia, labour). They never care about anyone but themselves. Didn’t he want to spend a fortune in cap and tax?

Let Che Guevera and his red buddies house these people. Oh, I forgot, Australia has a socialist government now.

Enjoy outdoor living.

Wow, socialism/communism/collectivism doesn’t work?

Say it ain’t so, Joe...Stalin!

Idiots worldwide will learn the hard way (if it doesn’t outright kill them) that, as history has shown MANY times, collectivism is a dead end.

Selfishness is a virtue.

That statement shocks only thieves and tyrants.

Our nature is a selfish one—and it’s a beautiful thing, unless of course your plan is to control/own/destroy humanity.

The only system that works is one that does not interfere with individual freedom.

F**king Duh!

If you could comment on Australia’s overall economic situation, it would be appreciated. I’d like to move some money into the Australian dollar various ways.

Australia is in excellent economic shape.

We still have a strong resource driven economy and were relatively unscathed by the GFC.

I would lose any American dollars and invest them into a combination of Australian dollar, Norwegian Kroner, etc.

Thanks, you reconfirm what we are about to do. Move the family trust to Canada where we can denominate in Australian dollars. Hadn’t heard about the Norwegian Kroner though, I will investigate.
