just saw a myth-busters show with doing just that and no way shooting straight up and the bullet coming down would it kill you . all the bullets they got came down hitting sideways in the ground something fishy about this story.

There has to be more to the story than the idiot reporter either included, or knows.

“Hatcher’s Notebook” by General Hatcher, is a one of firearms Bibles. He talks of firing bullets straight up and having them fell back to Earth, base first.

The “straight up” shot was likely on an angle up in the air. Grab something like a pistol and point up. It’s not a straight up shot, and still has a lot of it’s velocity.
