I believe that it was passed during the eighties (a compromise)with a Dem Congress. 1969. Another gift from Nixon.

"this is the least of the tax hikes this year " Absolutely!
And just listen to those tough hombres in the GOP House, Senate, and Governorships really taking it to the marxist scum.
Really sends a thrill up my leg to know that our glorious 'defenders of liberty" are on the job!

Already got an e-mail from HR that I would see more in taxes come out of my checks.

The AMT is no small item. Just wait until that one hits. Many, many, many people will get whacked by that one. Ill bet they fix that before 4/15 or there will be people calling for Democrat scalps, and it wont be Conservatives and independents. The problem is that they can attach it to some hideous unrelated bill and claim that whoever voted against that bill was for the AMT.
They should fix AMT once and for all, but congresscrooks consider anything that is merely fair or in the interest of the people isn't worth doing. Remember Reid said of senators that didn't get bribes from the healthcare bill, that didn't "reflect well" on them. Reid apparently thinks playing the corrupted symptom skillfully is a virtue.

Just did and joined. Thank you very much. It’s the best site I’ve seen so far for action and info in MD at least.

BUT, there's still the (one year) elimination of the death tax (then it jumps up higher than before).
So, we get Death AND Taxes for 2010. Congress is deincentivizing every productive activity, but will reward you (or at least your heirs) for slitting your throat. Happy New Year!

Agreed! The AMT is a particularly offensive tax to me.
