Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and tourists braved snow, rain and frigid temperatures last night and early this morning to be a part of the world's most famous welcome to the new year.
"It was well worth the frozen toes," said Zach Thomas, 20, of Connecticut, moments after Mayor Bloomberg pushed the button to start the 12-foot, 11,875-pound Waterford crystal ball's descent over Times Square.
Richa Pandey, 20, who's from sunny Southern California, was not turned off by the cold. "I like the weather," she said. "It's full of surprises. Just like the city."
