Racial tension has been building at Owatonna High School this week after a fight broke out Monday between white and Somali students, prompting heightened police presence, backpack searches and widespread parental worries.
Owatonna Police Chief Shaun LaDue said between six and 15 officers have been assigned this week to the school, which usually uses one liaison officer.
Principal Don Johnson said the problems began when two white students wrote papers in recent weeks that were "inflammatory and very disrespectful." One student handed out copies of his paper to friends, while the other posted his on a class blog. Both were suspended from the school of 1,600 students -- about 100 of whom are Somali.
Johnson said that before the second student returned to school Monday, the student sent text messages over the weekend to white and Somali students that were "unapologetic and in your face." He then walked into a common area Monday where more than 20 Somali students were gathered and sat down. An altercation erupted that sent one of the white students to the hospital for observation.
"When two or three [Somali] students went over there to take things into their own hands, they had a gallery," Johnson said. "It has triggered a kind of pandemonium mainly involving parents of Caucasian students, who pictured the worse -- as if 200 students were fighting on the football field."
False text messages about the school being on lockdown after someone brought a gun "created some additional strife," the principal said. "We've operated peacefully for years and then, all of a sudden, it seems like two boys couldn't quite figure it out."
One mother said Wednesday that her ninth-grader "is scared to death to go back to school tomorrow."

The best defense against Islam in the U.S. are two things:
1) Immediately stop all immigration and travel to the U.S. by Muslims. Ask all those with visas to leave and track and deport those who don’t.
2) The best defense against Islam is a population of people who are strong in their Christian faith. We need to build up generations of youth that are strong in their Christian faith. That is NOT going to happen in atheistic Marxist dominated government K-12 schools!
We as conservatives and Christians MUST, MUST, MUST open Christian private schools and shut down every government K-12 school in this nation.

You know, I don’t remember any problems like this with the Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees when they came to the DC area 25 or so years ago. I don’t know how Somalis ended up in Minnesota and Maine but thank God they didn’t all end up here. We, and apparently not the cops, have MS-13 to deal with.
But I guess none of it matters anyway since it’s all whitey’s fault.

Monday’s fight
Although the actual fight between the white students and the Somali students happened Monday, the parties agree that the roots of the fight can be traced back to a paper written for an English composition class earlier in the month. The senior who ended up in the hospital on Monday was given an assignment to write a paper for the class and post it on the class’ blog for other students to read and comment on. He posted the paper on Friday, Nov. 6.
He chose as his topic what he called “Somalian privileges” and wrote in his paper that the Somali students in the high school were allowed to “bend the rules.” As one example, he said that though most students weren’t allowed to wear hats in school, the Somali students routinely wore hats without being told to take them off.
Within a half hour, after the class had been dismissed, he was surrounded by a “pretty big group” of Somali students who had been given copies of the paper from other students in the class, the boy said. The Somalis were, the boy said, “pushing, yelling and asking questions” — specifically asking him if he had written the paper.
Sounds like they need to re-attain that "refugee" status.
It was the State university system and other privately funded institutions that first began “hiring” and then “importing” Somali “students” and “educators” into Minnesota in support of “international” study programs years ago. IIRC some of the universities were funding “studies” on the root causes of Somali poverty and civil disorder. Then the first implants all brought their families over which was easily accomplished with our completely open border situation. Then the families were fruitful and multiplied. As usual, our liberal educational system building a more diverse America—brick by bloody brick.
A student follows the lesson plan. Writes a paper and posts it on a class blog as directed. And for doing what he was supposed to – in a land that prides itself on freedom of speech and expression – in a learning institution no less – that student is beat down and suspended.
Were any charges brought against the Somali’s who distributed the paper and not only incited violence but perpetrated it? Was the content really offensive or did the Somali’s just not like what was written?
And since when did not liking what is written in a school project become a green light to attack the author? Wait. Does this sound familiar? Muslims violently attacking non-Muslims who write something the Muslims don’t agree with?
It is not just Muslims, the same thing happened to Obama, it is called AFFIRMATIVE ACTION.
Well, based on the principal’s own words, the boy’s essay proved to be true.

So the Somali students confront the white students, but the white students get singled out as the ones who can’t “quite figure it out”.
Seems like special treatment to me.
just about time for a good old fashion mob to take care of this.
Good observation. In the mid 1970’s refugees from Vietnam came to my hometown of Fargo, ND. Within 10 years the best students in the high schools were those children who came over as refugees or later on the children of those refugees.
I also don’t recall any spike in the crime rate when those refugees arrived.
My son always complained of the double standard in schools.
Blacks would swear, fight, cruse teachers, threaten teachers and nada.
Have to take in to account where they come from, very bad parentage etc, yada yada.
Many years ago, with just a hint of racial tension between black and “cowboy” students, a wiser principal made a very good decision.
He brought in a “security” officer. He was a frightening looking man, about 6’6” tall, muscular, and importantly, a war veteran. He was not handsome, and sported several gold teeth and plastic ears from a war wound.
He was also black. Briefly this gave the black students the idea that he might be on “their side”. They were mistaken. However, peace and order were restored.
Why not offer to take some of these Somali youths into your home and offer them some Home schooling like they had in their native country?
