We went to to the Kingshead Pub in Santa Monica a couple of times to cheer in the New Year at 4pm (Midnight GMT, with London closed circuit). It was dark in there so it was always fun to leave while still light outside with all our New Year’s Eve regalia on, and for people up and down the street to look at us as though we were crazy...which we were...and are, for those of you who would add it.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! KinA, and to all of our Freeper Family.

Good evening Kathy and have a Happy New Year’s Day.
We TRY to stay up until 12AM, but that has been hard lately.
Since this will be the wife and I on Dec 31st, without daughter for the first time ever, I may hit the sack early.

Happy New Year!! Our tradition is having a monster steak cooked on the grill - we're taking a break from that this year - big salmon fillet on the grill!

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHERS!
Sgt. George Miok, 28, of Edmonton, Sgt. Kirk Taylor, 28, of Yarmouth, N.S., Cpl. Zachery McCormack, 21, of Edmonton, and Pte. Garrett Chidley, 21, of Cambridge, Ont., were killed in an IED incident in Kandahar province, on Wednesday December 30, 2009.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
Flowers of the Forest
Black Watch Piper
Rest in Peace, fallen brothers, rest in peace! We who remain hold you in high honor. Rest, fallen brothers, in this sacred precinct; We who remain keep this place sacred. Rest, fallen brothers, among these, your comrades; We who remain keep the watch. Rest, fallen brothers, among these who answered the Nations call; We who remain press the fight forward in your name. Rest, fallen brothers, lay down thy burden; We who remain have taken up the torch. Rest in Peace, fallen brothers, rest in eternal peace!

Kathy, thank you so much for all you do for the military people!
I flew to Ft. Jackson over Christmas and got to spend wonderful time with SSG Dusty and his family.
He's now being transfered to Ft Riley, KS in April. Woo Hoo! 3 hours from dad!
Happy New Year to you and your fantastic family!

As a classical music fanatic, I have a number of rather strange customs. On New Years Eve, I listen to Orff's "Carmina Burana" (1975 Previn recording) and the Beethoven Ninth Symphony (1987 Norrington recording with period instruments).
At midnight, I open up some smoked salmon, cut up some crusty French bread and drink some brut champagne.
On New Years Day, I put on my DVD of the Metropolitan Opera production of Wagner's "Die Meistersinger", all five hours of it.
Like I said, I'm strange.
