President Obama puts the Postal Service in charge of dispensing bio-terror drugs

WASHINGTON - If the nation ever faces a large-scale attack by a biological weapon like anthrax, the U.S. Postal Service will be in charge of delivering whatever drugs and other medical aid Americans would need to survive.

In an executive order released Wednesday, President Barack Obama put the Postal Service in charge of dispensing "medical countermeasures" to biological weapons because of its "capacity for rapid residential delivery."

While most likely unrelated, the release of the executive order comes less than a week after a man with alleged ties to al-Qaida tried to bring down a Detroit-bound U.S. airliner. In recent days, Obama has sought to assure the public that his administration is doing what it can to protect the nation from terrorist attacks.

Under the new order, federal agencies must develop a response plan that includes possible law enforcement escorts for Postal Service workers and gives anthrax "primary threat consideration."

Unbelievable. Handing this responsibility to the USPS is like giving a map to Stevie Womder.

How about telling us what we need to have on hand and we’ll get it ourselves? Otherwise, we have to wait until it’s delivered after an attack?

How do mail carriers feel about becoming targets?

Dear TOTUS,

Why not pre-place them in locked areas of major hospitals.

The real problem here is not that the USPS would (or would not) deliver the vaccine. The real underlying problem is that the idiot Obama thought that news that the Postal Service would deliver it would reassure us!

Let me tell you the mailbox theft will be massive if that occurs. I unfortunately believe there will be so many people stealing from others’ mailboxes. I’m not necessarily talking neighbors doing it to other neighbors (the less they know their neighbors, the more likely it’d happen) but just strangers driving down streets and taking them from mailboxes.

You can’t buy the stuff they’d dispense because it’s something you need prescriptions for, otherwise. You can’t normally get it without prescription.

And yes, that does suck for those of us who want to make up emergency preparedness kits.

Everybody would be holed up in their duct taped room. Will your mailman be dressed in a biosuit? Maybe a good reason to get the kind of mailbox that requires the owner to unlock it to retrieve his mail.

My drug delivery will be sitting in my mailman’s car trunk for about a mouth before he drops it off in a dumpster behind his favorite crack house.

As usual, I'll have to go next door to pick up my drugs.

Why can't they be delivered by Jehovah's Witnesses?

These clowns lost my paycheck last month - said it was undeliverable. Only been at this address for 22 years!

Fortunately was returned to my employer and was able to get it!

I have no problem with this. UPS and Fed Ex regularly cannot find my rural home. USPS finds it every day.

The USPS delivers mail to every street address on a near daily basis. The private carriers don’t, nor do they have carriers who walk routes and who often know the residents living on their routes quite well.

People like to complain about the bankrupt USPS, but their problems are entirely caused by congressional micro management in regards to unionization and forced payments to prepay their excessive medical and retirement plans (so congress can raid that piggy bank).
