As we know the NY Times is the propagandist of choice for the WH, there's no doubt this "reliable source" was told to dump this information to deflect attention away from the WH toward the CIA. This type of crap will fuel a war, the kind of which the WH will regret starting. Panetta will have no choice but to defend his agency and to do so will mean there will be a WH target.

Obama's policy of "pass the buck stops here" has had a most interesting consequence of making these internecene squabbles into public fights.
