ANDERSON — A man who was shot in the head during an alleged armed robbery attempt last week was released Monday from an Indianapolis hospital into the custody of Anderson police.

Spencer R. Simmons, 44, of Beech Grove, was released from Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis at about 10 a.m. Anderson police Sgt. William Casey said Simmons was “brought to APD, and gave a full confession to his participation” in Wednesday night’s attempted armed robbery of the Pizza Hut restaurant on Broadway in Anderson.

Simmons was held on $40,000 bond in the Madison County Jail on Monday evening. He is charged with a count of armed robbery as a Class B felony, and Casey said additional charges are expected.

That is one lucky robber, too be shot in the head, taken out of the action, and recover enough to be able to walk out of the hospital. He must have a very hard head. I wonder where the wound was, the angle, the load and caliber and other details. There is a great deal of room for improvement in the reporting.

Another article said the defender had a Kel-tec 9mm.

But, they had words and I guess it was glancing and that there was a hoodie involved as well.

Shaker is not expected to face any charges in the incident, Casey said, because his actions were considered self-defense.
Good, but I wonder if he faces retribution from the bad guy. Too bad that shot-to-the-head wasn't fatal.

I have a neighbor who is a very vetran cop. He shot a guy with a 9mm in the back of the head after being shot him self. The bullet ran around the side of the head between the skin and the skull. He was out of the hospital before my friend was. My friend carries a 1911 every day now.
