I think “we” know why Obama has been silent and I suspect his adoring press corps also know that his administration missed the red flags on this terrorist and that there’s no legitimate way Obama can blame President Bush.
This is what he will say: “You know, all of these air travel checks and procedures were put in place by my predecessor, George W. Bush. I have in the past few days directed my administration to do a fundamental review of all of them to ensure that the public will be fully protected under any circumstance. I cannot tolerate anything else, and I don’t want in the future to have to interrupt my vacations to address these kinds of issues, especially when it is the previous administration policies that have created them in the first place.”
I think we can all safely predict that he will deliver vague generalities upon which almost any meaning can be attached. He’ll say things like “This unfortunate incident is undergoing intensive investigation” and “The flying public can rest assured that LONE SUSPECTS such as this person are rare and that the situation was immediately addressed, blah, blah, blah.”
His remarks will be filtered through the ears of Muslims all over the world, so as not to overtly blame them. However, I do think that he will find a way to slyly blame Bush, just as Gibbs did on the Sunday talk shows: “These policies have been in place for several years.” In fact, I was WAITING for Gibbs to do just that, and he did not disappoint.
When blaming Bush, look for B.O. to suddenly get an itch on his forehead so that he can extend his middle finger and scratch it.
