“It is not productive, given the history of US and Iranian relations to be seen as meddling in Iranian elections,” he said.
“But when I see violence directed at peaceful protesters, when I see peaceful dissent being suppressed it is of concern to me and it is of concern to the American people.”
Speaking later in the television interview, he downplayed the importance to the world of the struggle for power in Iran.
“The difference between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi in terms of their actual policies may not be as great as has been advertised,” he said.
To whom are you referring? Who is the spokesperson/ Amir Ahmadi?
Disinformatinis based on mentioning something true taht everyone knows or can believe and then adding the poison pill.
Meddling in 1959 (50-years ago) no longer has anything to do with anything inside Iran among the under 30-year old (65% mostly) population. EVen the old fuddy-duddies - unless they were politically inclineda t the time barely remember those days. If you are 70-years old now, you would have been 20 in those days and politics were not a strong point in the Iranian nation then (except with the Communists), so the impact is almost zero.
The populace of Iran has trouble remembering the 1979 Khomeini revolution and consider Khomeini as dead history, so the idiotic reference by Amir Ahmadi is a “dissuasive” tactic ploy and nothing more.
Aimed at fuddy-duddies in America (some Senators etc. or activist congressmen like Barnie Franks) who might, just might still have some influence to steer Obama away from supporting the opposition movement using this dud “ammunition”. Not that he needs much dissuading as he avoids the situation like the plague
