Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday there was no indication so far that a botched terror attack on a U.S. airliner was part of a broad international effort.
"Right now we have no indication that it is part of anything larger," Napolitano told CNN's "State of the Union" program.
A lone suspect allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Detroit, Michigan on Christmas Day.
The device apparently failed to detonate and the suspect was subdued.
Napolitano said the suspect, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, was on a broad security watch list that contains "half a million" names and is shared with airlines and foreign security agencies. However, a lack of specific evidence prevented him from being classified as a greater security risk that would bar him from travel to the United States, she said.
"You need information that is specific and credible if you're going to bar people from air travel," Napolitano said.

Uhh, what about the “Indian” man, (more likely Pakastini) in the “nice suit” who was observed bringing the bomber to the gate and asking if he could get on the plane without a passport? That would indicate a wider plot to me.

There is witness audio that a very well-dressed man was with the terrorist at the check-in counter, and he was seen by several people.
Also, it was reported by another witness that a SECOND person was taken off the plane in handcuffs, right after the terrorist, but there has not been one word about it in the press. Supposedly, there was a bomb or bomb components in his luggage. Where did this info come from ..?? Did somebody make this up just to sensationalize the event ..??

Let me get this straight. The ‘system’ worked? No, it didn’t work at all! What worked was a heroic civilian(s) who decided to make his/ their syetem work.
The system FAILED Napalitano...had it worked this muslim terrorist would never have boarded that airplane.....period.
It is not bad enough that this government is a failure, but quite another when some innocent would be victim assumes a higher role and thwarts a terrorist attack, and the government says the “system” worked. Lets face it, the system, the ENTIRE system called government has failed us, and continues the spiral into the great unknown that we are going to deal with very soon. At that time I only hope millions of “civilians” decide to be as brave as needed to thwart that attack.
Of course there is a wider plot, its called ISLAMIC TERROR.
