When I left Dublin, Ireland two weeks ago, we had to go through bag check in, then gate security, and then through a special US Customs screening. These were AMERICAN Customs Agents permanently stationed in Ireland. No one could even get to the gates hosting US bound flights without going through them. Everyone had to have a US passport or if a non-US passport, also had to fill in a green customs card with A LOT of questions and then go through the a customs agent’s questions individually. Mine asked me what I was doing in Ireland, where did I stay, how long I was there, where I was going to, etc. Very courteous and friendly, but all business underneath.
Frankly, there must be a problem in Amsterdam. The AL Q types know which weakness to exploit, IMHO.
My husband will be coming back.
