Morning AB, All....

Got a couple of stories to share this morning but I’ll start with the cat that is now, even as I type, sitting high in a tree in my backyard.

It’s a white cat, owned by somebody in the neighborhood. She wears a collar, looks well-fed. But she is let free and we always find her in our backyard or around our house. Of course I talk to her kindly as I am a cat sort of guy. We are owned by four cats already.

Got a Belgian Malinois, she’s used to cats. They love her; she tolerates them, thinking cats are mostly a waste of human time that would be better spent on care of dogs.

But Belgian Malinois, she don’t like white cats in her yard. This morning as I go out to do our morning exercises, dog chases something as dog always does. Mostly it’s squirrel-rodents that must scurry across the yard and up a tree, which dog, due to genetics, cannot climb.

I hear something scurry up a tree and I think it’s a squirrel-rodent. I continue my morning job around my “track” as dog tries to climb tree in her extreme anxiety. I must look up as this is a bit hyper reaction for a mere squirrel-rodent.

It is the white cat, then about halfway up the tree. I am dumbfounded. It is the proverbial cat in the tree, it’s in my yard, I am in the middle of my morning exercise routine which I could not do the prior two days due to holiday and overnight guests. Somehow the white cat was in the yard when I exited the house and the dog will find anything not supposed to be in our yard quite handily. The sun shines, the snow melts, I look forward to a good workout after meals of ham and scallopped potatoes.

I go in and get husband out of bed because hey, this is something husband should know. Belgian Malinois is going nuts to get up the tree to get to the white cat, which is very scared hanging on up high, you must understand. We call dog into house, thinking that white cat will surely come down with dog out of way.

Well it’s been almost two hours by now and white cat is STILL in tree. Dog is in house with the four cats that she lives with and has forgotten about white cat.

So I don’t know what’s going to happen but I went ahead and did my exercise routine with the cat in the tree. Cat kind of relaxed and dog once in a while tried to climb the tree so at least at that time the cat didn’t seem too awful terrified. I talked to it sweetly and hey, I don’t think the dog would hurt the cat but the dog, she don’t like critters of human or animal kind in her yard. It’s her job.

So I got two great anecdotes about Obamer but I’ve taken so much time with white cat story read the next post.

Son-in-law. I don’t like him so much due to his allergy to steady work and, of course, he’s way beneath my daughter’s station in life. I’ve always considered him one of the dimmer bulbs in the lamp and for sure politics were never his forte.

But as we all must, I tolerate him on holidays and such and this year they are all spending night as they live in Baltimore and I live in swamps of Delaware. We had a great meal and a great time, in the name of Father, Son and Holy Ghost, as last year I had not one gift under tree and Christmas capped a year of brain infections and heart bypass operations.

SIL cannot stand Obama and he launches into rant after rant.

“First of all,” he says. Inwardly I roll my eyes. Seriously. He’s never been any pundit but like I said, it was Christmas. “The young,” and he points to my beloved granddaughter Kaitlyn who I love dearly and all of her genes came from me Praise the Lord. So she looks a bit like him but hey, I didn’t say he was ugly, did I?

He continues. “The young already are covered with health insurance.” I am surprised because, yes they are. SCHIP it’s called. “The elderly and disabled have Medicare.” I raise eyebrows at his discourse. “So the able-bodied, like me, when we get sick we pay more. We pay into Medicare. We pay more in health care costs because we have to help carry the Spanish (he used a derogatory term) and illegals. But hey, the able-bodied carrying the weaker, WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS?”

I was struck dumb. Oh only for a moment but he’s right! He goes on...”If you need health care, you GO TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM! They can’t turn you down.” Heh. Still he is right. He gets it. “If I need hospital treatment or some such, I’ll either get Medicaid if I’m eligible or I’ll have to pay Five bucks a month for the rest of my life.”

Well see, I wish he had health care but then how you gonna get this if you don’t believe in such as steady jobs? He and my daughter live a life of hand to mouth but they are happy, yes they are, and I’ll tell you true, if SIL had a medical problem, he’d find a way to get by. Daughter has medicare due to disability cause daughter not stupid enough to be uninsured. Kaitlyn is covered by SCHIP. Hey, I’d never live my life like this, or did I, but what, I’m gonna spend the rest of my life harping on daughter? She knows how I feel and yet, she seems happy being one step beyond eviction.

SIL all day ranted and raved about Obama and damn he was good. He’s going out recruiting folks to vote him out, he’s gonna join tea parties, he says they are taking our freedoms away, he says he wants his daughter to have the country he grew up in.

I almost liked the guy.

So I’m at choir practice last week. One member of the choir, a year prior, said something so rude I really could not stand him. I’d mentioned something about Rush Limbaugh at one practice. This guy, we’ll call him Joe, gave a snarky comment about Rush Limbaugh being a wind bag, yada, yada. By me I don’t think Joe should have to listen to Rush Limbaugh but is it good form to be so derogatory of something somebody else likes? If Joe had said something good about, I dunno, Chris Matthews, I would have bit my tongue but manners are manners.

Last week Joe comes over and whispers in my ear. “You remember what I said last year about Rush Limbaugh?” I nod affirmative. Joe says “I love the guy now. I can’t stand this current administration. They’re going to bring this country down.”

Joe then gives me a thumbs up and I smile big.

I know these are anecdotal stories but here are two distinctly different individuals, both singing the same tune. Joe is a former executive from General Motors, very liberal, at least oncit. SIL is a bit of a heathen who never minded politics and whenever he talked about current events he sounded like an idiot who didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. He’s paying attention now, yes he is, that was very obvious.

What say you?
