ST. ANTHONY -- The family of Evan Vela, an imprisoned former soldier from Parker, is expressing gratitude for a Christmas donation to his wife and children.

The donation came about through efforts by a national organization to support soldiers accused of crimes related to the war on terrorism.

Vela is being held at the military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

In an e-mail, the organization, United American Patriots, says an anonymous donor has made a cash gift of $1,000 to Vela's wife, Alyssa, along with Christmas presents for the couple's two children, a boy and a girl.

For more information, Vela's family has set up a Web site at www.freeevanvela.com and the UAP Web site is www.unitedpatriots.org

There is now a Petition to try to help Evan even more. Prove to Evan he is NOT FORGOTTEN. Prove it to yourselves.

On a particular mission, the squad’s hide site was compromised. The Staff Sgt. in charge decided at that time that this Iraqi needed to be eliminated as he believed his squad was in danger. Evan was ordered to eliminate the Iraqi.

The Staff Sergeant’s trial along with Evan’s trial was held in Baghdad. The Staff Sgt. whom gave the order was exonerated. Evan was charged in Baghdad for murder among other charges and was sentenced to 10 years. High-ranking members of the Iraqi Government attended the trial and we believe that their presence influenced the panel in reaching the final verdict.

Let me make sure I understand the timeline in this case (a case I’m just reading about for the first time now):

Bush could have pardoned Vela before he left office, correct?

Search under keyword Vela. There are some articles. I can tell you anything about this you might want to know, except for the stuff in the file buried under a top secret classification.

Yes, Bush could have pardoned him, but he didn’t want to do a bunch of pardons that would have tarnished his legacy like Bill Clinton did.

Bush was the quintessential RNC President. Half-in, half-out of everything he did.

He started out good and then went soft on us. Oh well, I would take him over what we have now any day.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

That's an excellent description of his presidency.

And Happy Holiday to you and yours.
