I met him once, when I was little, at a gun club. He wasn’t very nice and didn’t even want to give me an autograph. I also remeber how squinchy his eyes were. I never forgot and I never liked him after that. I was so disappointed.
I was never the biggest RR fan either. Allan “Rocky” Lane was higher on the scale.
I agree with you totally. I ran into him at the American Royal in Kansas City. Actually encountered him in a hallway and he was extremely rude. He was all about image and nothing about being an actual Christian.
I met him once too, when I was about 9. I handed him a Roy Rogers paper doll to sign and he did and was very pleasant and I think charmed by the doll. I have no idea what happened to that paper doll.
I had the opposite experience in about 1990. He and his wife, Dale, were very congenial and he signed an autograph.
But then I would never ask anyone for their autograph.
Notwithstanding the anecdotal evidence to the contrary that you have presented, whom am I going to believe,...you or Roy Rogers?
When I was a kid, I saw him shooting trap at a gun club, but don't recall getting to meet him.
I did, however, get to meet "Hopalong Cassidy" as a young lad. He was great with the kids.
To quote WC Fields, “Get out of here, kid. You smell like peanuts and popcorn.”
Actually, I saw George Romney Sr. exiting the capitol in Lansing when I was about 12. He had had a bad day and I showed. I never forgot that.
That’s too bad. We met him when we visited his museum when it was in California. We went through the tour and at the end, he came around the corner and shook our hands. I know my dad was thrilled because I didn’t know who he was (I was about 5).
