More than 100 could be victims of pediatrician

GEORGETOWN, Del. – A pediatrition charged with sexually abusing his patients likely attacked more than 100 children at an office he had decked out with a merry-go-round and a ferris wheel, a state official said Wednesday.

The volume of evidence seized from Dr. Earl Bradley's practice and home, including video tapes and computer files, makes it difficult to estimate the number of victims, said Alexis Slutsky, a deputy attorney general assigned to the state's Child Predator Task Force.

"I'm comfortable in saying probably well over 100 potential victims," she said at a news conference with Attorney General Beau Biden and other law enforcement officials.

Slutsky said the investigation is focusing on cases between 1998 and the present.

Bradley, 56, was arrested last week and is being held in prison on $2.9 million bond. He has been charged with 33 felony counts relating to seven victims. A preliminary hearing Wednesday was postponed until Jan. 14. His attorney, Eugene Maurer, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Stacy Cohee, a deputy attorney general, said Bradley was not brought to the courthouse for Wednesday's hearing because corrections officials are "concerned about his mental state right now," adding that there were concerns he is suicidal.

The case has shocked the close-knit community of Lewes, a town of about 3,100 on the Delaware coast. The case is even more chilling because some alleged victims are no more than 6 months old.

"It's horrific," said Wallace Hudson, vice president of Beebe Medical Center just blocks from Bradley's home. Bradley had privileges at the hospital which were immediately suspended when he was arrested. Pennsylvania's state board of medicine also announced an immediate temporary suspension of Bradley's license there.

Police say Bradley used video cameras to record some of the attacks.

If true and proved, hang him at the edge of town and let his carcass swing for a year.

I’m serious. Enough of this crap.

I’m curious as to why a parent would consent to letting a dr., any dr., see the child alone w/out the parent present. From the article, that seemed to be his M.O.

According to BDS, doesn't this have to be Biden’s fault? I mean after all, he was a Senator from Delaware while this was happening. Oh wait, only Republicans are responsible for anything that occurs while they are in charge.

Well a psychologist typically would want to be alone with a patient because the parent could be the source of the problem.

But I cant think of a reason why a pediatrician would need to be alone with the child. That should send up a red flag, and it did apparently with some parents according to the article.

Peculiar, they do not mention the gender of the victims...most likely, homosexual acts.

I would NEVER leave my daughter alone with a man. Not a doctor, not a dentist. The parents need to get a clue. But that doesn’t excuse this monster. There must be a special place in hell for people who hurt children.

Then Dr's need a small room with a see-through mirror.

Harvest any usable organs first.

The Delaware Physician Licensing Board lists him (as of 3 minutes ago) as being “active”....not suspended, revoked or anything like that.

It could be either gender...or both. Some pervs are more "particular" than others.

Not trying to get into an arguement here...but are trying to say only men abuse children?

Have you not seen the babysitters/nannys on tape with hidden cameras? They are hitting kids, shaking babies, and committing all types of abuse. Look at the recent trend of female teachers getting arrested over the past few years.

A child abuser can be any age, any race, any gender. Yes the majority of them are men. But a percentage are women. To single out one gender and then completely trust the other is playing a numbers game.

All the victims have been female so far.

A very few occurred in exam rooms but most of them were in a building behind the office or in the basement. In the separate building & basement, he kept toys and treats for kids after their appt. (You should see the office, it looks like a carnival from the outside, miniature ferris wheel, rides, toys etc). I’ve been past the office many times over the years.

I figure it probably played out like this “You’ve been such a good girl today! I’m sure we have a treat for such a good girl! Would you like to come with Dr B and pick out whatever you want?” (child smiles, nods). “Ok, mom, if you want to go settle up front and schedule her next appt in 6 months, we’ll meet you up there in just a minute!” Mom goes to pay copay, talks with the receptionist, schedules followup etc etc. The parents who stayed in his practice probably regarded him as this wonderful teddybear of a doctor, who loved his patients and made their visits as fun as possible. And I’m sure he didn’t start out with this MO, and he probably didn’t take too many patients back alone their first visit or two. His MO evolved over the years, as he gained trust. Pedophiles gain trust, with the kids and with their families. He was a master manipulator of both.

Don’t blame the parents. They’re going through enough right now and even as i type, there are parents wondering if they are going to get a call asking them to come in and identify their kid on a video or photo. They placed their trust in their pediatrician, misplaced to be sure, but not a crime. They will forever blame themselves for trusting this man, they don’t need any more.

Sorry, I have 5 and if a doctor talked like that to me, I’d tell him to shove it....thats the parents responsiblity to protect their children...Doctors are not gods and we pay for their service....so I have to disagree with you. Any doctor that would not let me in the room with my child would throw up warning signs like crazy and they were kids before we heard so much about perverts....in their 40’s and 50’s now..
