Rebuffed this month by skeptical lawmakers when it sought finances to buy a prison in rural Illinois, the Obama administration is struggling to come up with the money to replace the Guantánamo Bay prison.
As a result, officials now believe that they are unlikely to close the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and transfer its population of terrorism suspects until 2011 at the earliest — a far slower timeline for achieving one of President Obama’s signature national security policies than they had previously hinted…
But in interviews this week, officials estimated that it could take 8 to 10 months to install new fencing, towers, cameras and other security upgrades before any transfers take place. Such construction cannot begin until the federal government buys the prison from the State of Illinois…

This is a dumb question since I should know, but when they talk about closing the prison, does that include completely pulling up stakes and giving it all to the Cubans?
No, Guantanamo is our Naval Base on which the prison is located.

Just speculation, but I imagine with Guantanamo Bay closed, Obama will likely return the base to Castro.
Here’s my hope: The Lord works in mysterious ways.... the secure prison at GITMO will one day hold the man and his criminal cohorts who closed it. :)

Halal is “muzzie approved foods.” You know the terrorists have their own gourmet Halal menu at Gitmo don’t you? They have seven or more entrees they can choose from.
I won my bet with all of my liberal acquaintances, I told them there was no way Gitmo would be closed by the end of one year. That bet was about as safe as betting that the Detroit Lions wouldn’t make the Super Bowl.
