In voting for health bill, Warner and Webb cite lower costs
Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | December 22, 2009

Sen. Mark R. Warner, D-Virginia, said that he voted in favor of the health-care overhaul because he thinks it will lower health-care costs...Warner and Virginia's senior senator, Jim Webb, also a Democrat, recorded their votes to advance the legislation. In the end, the Senate's 58 Democrats and two independents voted to prevent a filibuster and move the bill toward likely passage before Christmas...

Webb said the debate "often overwhelmed the substance" of fixing the problem.

Warner and Webb said they thought that late changes in the Senate bill improved it. Warner cited the dropping of the public option. But Warner, who had joined other freshmen senators in successfully offering amendments to the Senate bill, warned against future cost increases...

Neither senator said he made a deal with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to secure a vote in return for something for Virginia. Webb said he will examine the conference report -- after differences between the House of Representatives and the Senate are ironed out. If the negotiators make significant departures from what he considered improvements in the Senate bill, he reserves the right to oppose the resulting bill.

Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, praised the president's work and commended Webb, Warner and the other 58 senators.

"We are now on the verge of the biggest domestic policy breakthrough since the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s," he said. Kaine said that in Virginia, the passage of comprehensive health-care reform "would ensure access to quality, affordable health care for 1.2 million uninsured Virginians, bring security to the millions of people who are already insured, and bring down the cost of health care for all of us."...

Rep. Robert J. Wittman, R-lst, urged Democrats to scrap the bill and start all over again...

My dim bulb senators at work. Neither one of them thought to hold out on this vote until the leadership provided them with something special for Virginians, like Ben Nelson did. As a result, we will get to pay for benefits that we don’t enjoy, benefits people in Nebraska get gratis. Webb and Warner DIDN’T REPRESENT OUR STATE, and screwed Virginia taxpayers. They gave away their votes. LEARN HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED, BOYS, or get off the field. Then my even dimmer bulb, crook of a governor chimes in, too.

Bring it on dumbsh!ts. You will never be re-elected or elected to any VA or national office again. Lets see how small the Dem party in VA can get?

I don’t think federal elected officials can be recalled. They can, however, be expelled, but the House or Senate would have to do the expulsion.

This bill is front loaded with taxes and the payouts do not start for what 4 years? FDR and LBJ did the exact same thing. I heard yesterday that this bill will be in the red by 2029.

They were voting for it all along. I ripped them up in an email I sent them because while they would tell me (when I called) that the senator was undecided, I remarked it’s amazing that Sen Reid isn’t having a special conference to make the bill right by the state of Virginia’s needs.

But I think that’s a good way to spin it...we need to call out all the RAT senators for not getting the sweetheart deal that Nelson got.

We need to hound them with questions of...why can’t Virginia get the same deal Nelson got for his state?

I think it will be in the red within five years. If something is “free,” demand for it increases exponentially. Not to mention the Oklahoma Land Run that will occur across our Southern border if this becomes law.

I posted my comment on the Richmond newspaper website where this appeared. I urge everyone else to go there and leave a greeting for these bastards.

Will do. But I also called their office and chose option 2 to speak with someone. Warner rolled to voice mail and Jim Webb is a busy signal. I will try a local office next.

Warner: 202.224.2023
Webb: 202.224.4024

Good. I hope they are getting fried. But please post on the Richmond paper website and elsewhere numerous Virginians will see it. They managed to screw both the conservatives, who don’t want the bill to pass, and those who support it but who also expect their interests to be represented by their senators.

Just got an e-mail from Webb: On Monday, December 21, Senators Jim Webb (D-VA) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) published an op-ed in Roll Call newspaper entitled, “New Bill Tackles Economy, Energy, Climate Change.”

The Dem strategy has been to rush through healthcare & 'get on to what the people are really worried about: jobs, economy, energy, etc.'. I guess this is an example of that philosophy. Sorry Jimbo, not so fast ...... and by the way, you ARE going to be held accountable for that unconscionable vote on healthcare.

Guess we will have to be happy with TPing their house, slashing their tires and then kicking them out of office.

As a Virginian living in Yankee land. I am ashamed that my home state could send those two to the Senate. However the state I currently live in is far worse. My congresscritters are Leahy, Sanders, and Welch. The three stooges, Curly, Curly and Larry. We didn’t get a smart one.
