I thought it was scramjet, not ramjet. Haven't we had ramjets forever?

Yes, but "SCramjet" stands for "supersonic combustion ramjet". So a scramjet is a type of ramjet. In a "regular" ramjet, the air is slowed to subsonic speed, and the combustion takes place at those speeds. But as the term implies, this is not true for a scramjet. The trick appears to be keeping the fire lit.
